Bio: Although I was born and raised in Bangor, my family originated from Newtownabbey and the South East Antrim area. My great uncle, George Herron, was twice Mayor of Newtownabbey. Many of my family still live in the local area so I am delighted to be practising here in the beautiful coastal town of Carrickfergus.
At the age of twelve I took up horse riding as a sport and this interest later developed into a passion for competing at international three-day event level. It was at this time that I was introduced to Chiropractic by other riders who had found it extremely effective in treating both riders and horses. When my own horse was injured after a fall, I was inspired by the dramatic results Chiropractic treatment had in returning him to full fitness and readiness to compete once again. I knew then that Chiropractic was what I wanted to do. The drive and commitment to an intense training schedule, such as that required for the equestrian sport of eventing, was excellent preparation for the transition to life studying at the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic at the University of Bournemouth. This was a time of great personal growth, studying a wealth of different topics and numerous techniques in combination with meeting a wide variety of people and learning about different cultures from all over the world. As part of my studies I wrote a dissertation comparing the effectiveness of different treatments for muscular pain and I was invited to present my work at the annual Chiropractic, Osteopathy and Physiotherapy Conference.
After 5 years of study, I graduated with a Masters in Chiropractic, and the following year I received the title of Doctor of Chiropractic. I worked in the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic Clinic for over a year. During this time I had a very broad scope of practice working with patients of all ages, from three days old to ninety-six years of life experience. Being able to help so many people to achieve optimal good health gave me tremendous job satisfaction and confirmed that I was on the right career path.
I have attended courses and achieved a number of postgraduate qualifications in both England and Germany. One of these was a Postgraduate Diploma in Acupuncture and Clinical Dry Needling led by Dr John Reynolds. Through this I have developed my knowledge in a wide variety of needling techniques, with a mostly western philosophy. I have also studied Veterinary Chiropractic at the International Academy of Veterinary Chiropractic and achieved certification from the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association.
I joined the team at the Bangor Chiropractic Clinic in 2011 and thoroughly enjoyed 2 years there! During this time I further developed my clinical and interpersonal skills which, together with the rest of the team, allowed us to provide a service of excellence to the local community. In May 2013, I moved on and joined the team at Carrick Chiropractic.
We are passionate in combining our strengths to continue to provide an outstanding level of care, while supporting our patients in obtaining all round wellness by focusing on the key elements of Chiropractic, nutrition, exercise and stress management.
I currently enjoy living in the countryside as this provides many opportunities for me to ride and compete on my horses, Clover and Silko and to indulge in long walks with my Weimaraner dog, Jake.
